Somebody Else’s Sky by Jessica Hawkins

If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.

A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.

Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else.

My thoughts:

Somebody Else’s Sky is Jessica Hawkins second book to (Something in The Way), where the story of Lake, Manning and Tiffany continue. Complicated is not how or what I’d describe this forbidden romance that appears to be unraveling at the seams. Emotionally charged? For sure, it wouldn’t be a Jessica Hawkins book if you didn’t feel as if your heart was ripped out from its chest cavity, trampled on, but with a little love and tenderness to be placed back in its chamber beating a new force of life.

There are few books or story lines that has moved me and left me utterly paralyzed, completely undone and Somebody Else’s Sky undoubtedly does. Jessica burst in with guns blazing and ready to tear into our hearts which left me thoughtless, speechless and a whole lot of WTF!. Jessica aimed for the stars in Somebody Else’s Sky, truly riveting, absolutely incredible a undeniable 5 stars. One thing I know is that my mind and heart may not be fully equipped to handle book 3 but I’m always up for the challenge.

Leatha. The Lighter Side of Aleatha:  Plus One

He’s sexy and confident, the kind of man every woman notices. You know, the one with the to-die-for body and panty-melting smirk. And then there’s the way his designer suits drape over his broad shoulders and big…well, we’ve all heard the rumors, the ones that say he’s up for any challenge.

can’t see him that way. He’s my boss—technically one of the owners of the company where I work—and definitely not in my league. Men like him don’t notice women like me, and they don’t date them.

And I don’t date men like him.

Until that one time that I catch him in a compromising position when I’m also in need of a last-minute date for a wedding…and then it’s not real. It’s blackmail.

For one weekend, he’s my plus-one.

Beautiful and unobtainable.

From the moment she walked into my office with those stunning blue eyes and crazy sensual curves, she’s been on my mind. Three years and never once has she acted interested in me. Usually I flash a million-dollar smile and women fall to their knees, some literally.

Not her.

Then on the occasion that I agree to let another woman do that—fall to her knees—guess who happens to catch us?

It may not be the most conventional way to get on her radar, but I didn’t get this far in business without knowing when to seize an opportunity. If this sexy little firecracker with perfectly kissable lips thinks she can blackmail me to attending her cousin’s wedding, I’m going to jump at the chance to be her plus-one.

You love her darker side. Now it’s time to meet Leatha, the lighter side of Aleatha, as she trades her renowned twists and turns for laughs and love with this sexy new stand-alone romance, PLUS ONE.

Something in the way

Something in the way, is LIVE!!!

It was a hot summer day when I met him on the construction site next to my parents’ house. Under the sweat and dirt, Manning Sutter was as handsome as the sun was bright. He was older, darker, experienced. I wore a smiley-face t-shirt and had never even been kissed. Yet we saw something in each other that would link us in ways that couldn’t be broken…no matter how hard we tried.

I loved Manning before I knew the meaning of the word. I was too young, he said. I would wait. Through all the carefully-chosen words hiding what we knew to be true, through his struggle to keep me innocent, and through infinitely-starry nights—I would wait. But I’d learn that life isn’t always fair. That no matter how much you achieve, none of it matters if you suffer the heartbreak that comes with falling for someone you can never have. Because even though I saw Manning first, that didn’t matter. My older sister saw him next.

Chapter 4

Pandemonium prevailed as my heart beat faster. The world around me was falling apart, and I was again powerless. I’d said I didn’t want to leave the mansion. I’d protested, but here I was, being ushered, forcibly, toward the front of the house. Though I couldn’t see the guests, their voices were audible over the click of Suzanna’s and my heels as we stepped upon the marble floor.

“Dear, you’ll need to fix your make up.”

I joined the others in ignoring Suzanna as panic bubbled in the depths of my stomach, creating a sour concoction. I needed to get away—not go with them. I’d done all I could to stall, slowing my steps, claiming I needed to go up to my room, anything. Each moment I searched for aid, for Patrick, for Jane, or for anyone who could offer me a lifeline. Even Judge Townsend had disappeared. Now as we made our way to the front door, the corridors and foyer were exactly how Alton had ordered them to be—empty.

With each step, memories flashed in front of my eyes of my recent return to Montague Manor. Nine days ago as I walked these same hallways, the walls had been lined with Alton’s soldiers—his show of power. Their absence was the same display. Alton Fitzgerald could make people appear and disappear. Maybe I’d been wrong about my stepfather’s ability to entertain. He wasn’t a singer or dancer. He was a magician.

There wasn’t even a staff member present to open the front door as we approached. They’d all slipped into the secret dimension that only they could access. For a moment I wondered if they could see us and then I realized they couldn’t. Nor could they hear. They were paid too well for that.

Suzanna reached for the large handle and pulled the massive door inward. As we stepped onto the porch, the cool night air blew wisps of my hair about my face. My skin prickled with goose bumps as a chill raced through me.

“I need a coat,” I tried.

“Nonsense. The car is warm,” Alton said as a limousine pulled up the drive.

A sense of déjà vu filled me with the same doom I’d felt at Magnolia Woods.

I tugged my arm free from Alton’s grasp as the autumn leaves danced, creating a trail in the car’s wake. I wanted to push Alton for answers, but weighed my words. Over the last few minutes, his panicked sense of urgency had turned to a quiet resolve. The new demeanor gave me no sense of security.

As much as I despised the thought, I missed Bryce.

It was the knowledge that I was again alone at Alton’s mercy. Despite Bryce’s bipolar psychotic episodes, he had protected me from my stepfather more than once.

I tried not to think about how I wasn’t protected when he and I were alone, or how he’d treated Chelsea—his whore. Even his title for her made me ill. As we waited I longed for a phone with the blue dot app. It hadn’t been necessary when I’d been the one to wear the necklace, but now, I wanted to know that Chelsea was with Nox. If she and my mother were safe, I could break free.

My fingers trailed the diamond choker around my neck. The loss of the tracker necklace was suffocating. I reassured myself that it had been the right move. If for any reason Chelsea had been detained along the way, the beacon on the necklace would have led Nox to her.

Shivering, I wrapped my arm around my midsection and turned toward my stepfather as the car approached. “Please, tell me about my mother.”

“Really, Alexandria?” His warm breath reeked of whiskey as he looked up from his phone. No doubt his time spent with the VIPs in his office had been filled with the best alcohol in the mansion. “Your husband needs you and you’re asking about your mother. She’s probably sleeping peacefully, still detoxing.”

“Probably? You don’t know? And Bryce and I aren’t married. Do you know about my mother for sure?”

Suzanna didn’t speak as she turned her attention to Alton.

He shook his head. “Your mother is being taken care of. But, daughter, you’re mistaken about your marital status. You were married yesterday. Tonight’s party had been to announce your surprise nuptials. I just received confirmation. Ralph Porter will have the paperwork drawn up and Judge Townsend will make it all legal.” His thin lips formed a strained smile. “Congratulations, Mrs. Spencer. Today is your one-day

Well, I felt as if I haven’t entered the damn twilight zone after reading Fidelity, the fifth book to the Infidelity Series by Aleatha Romig, then I have no clue where I have been. Let me just start off by saying holy moly this book frustrated the hell out of me and just like some of the characters I wanted to kill something, strangle anything. I cannot count how many times I’ve yelled at the characters, don’t do this, don’t go there, say something damint! and craved more, give me what you got Aleatha. The world were you didn’t just read the story about the characters Nox and Charli but felt their anger, fear, hurt, desperation, trust, love and Fidelity.

From the beginning of the Infidelity Series Had me pins and needles, heart pounding in my ears to anxious and paralyzed page by page. Fidelity isn’t what you may think it’s innumerable and surpassed my expectations. Aleatha, cleverly created a world where only the Montague’s, Fitzgerald’s, Spencer’s and the Demetri’s could only exist and tread the turbulent journey with the families but also generate a beautiful connection between Charli and Nox and his love for Charli is uncompromising, never wavered under any circumstances.

Betrayal, Cunning, Deception, and Entrapment was rated 5 stars therefore Fidelity without a doubt receives a massive 5 stars to complete this all star set of awesomeness because it just that damn good, and as all the other series I have been thoroughly Aleatha’d and didn’t expect anything less. Bravo.

My thoughts as I finished Incarcerated. Why in the hell hadn’t I got my hands on this treasure when it debuted in 2014?. But now that I have it I will spreading the word. Not often I read about and inmate that is smoking hot, a racist who falls for the ever so introvert who happens to be African American. I wondered how could Inger pull this off and pair these two broken souls together?. In other words “what was she thinking!.” Boy, was I blown away and captivated by Logan and Katie story and fell deeper in abyss that is Logan and Katie with every letter.

“You want me to change overnight, Katie, and I’m telling you right now that it’s not going to happen. You’re asking me to forget years of abuse in a matter of days.”

― Inger Iversen, Incarcerated
Incarcerated was well written. Inger kept these characters and events close to reality that I forgot it’s a fictional story that attacked real issues of interracial couples, prejudices, rich, poor and diversity head on and kept Logan and Katie real. It is no doubt that this book is 5 stars, heck I would give Incarcerated all the stars in the sky if I could. I absolutely recommend this book and even though the story is about an interracial couple the real story, a love story about a woman and a man that will face and overcome adversity. Bravo Inger.

Intense pleasure. Indeed!

But some passions are so intense they can’t remain hidden. What are Falcone and Raeg willing to risk for the woman they both crave like no other, in Intense Pleasure, the next Bound Hearts novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Lora Leigh.

My Thoughts

O! Me O! My. Where do I begin? Intense Pleasure by Lora Leigh was absolute scorching. I flew through these pages of passion and had to take several “coffee breaks”. I have read most of Lora’s books and is fan however the intensity of these three characters were undeniably pleasurable and set this book apart for the others. The story of this taboo romance is a short read but does not lack the detail, eroticism, passion whatsoever. Lora, you set these pages ablaze I bow down to you Queen of erotica. 5 fiery stars.

Yours to Bare

Yours To Bare by Jessica Hawkins

No matter how cruel it’s been in the past, I’ve never been able to flip fate the bird. I’m a romantic at heart. So when fate drops a leather-bound journal at my feet, I know I should walk away.

I don’t. I pick her up, bend her spine, spread her pages. From the first word, I’m a goner. The owner didn’t give me access to her most intimate desires, but I devour them anyway. Her private darkness, her candid, explicit poetry—it all goes down like warm milk. And from that point forward, I drink, eat, and sleep her.

I went to his apartment and let him take my picture. Just once, to see how it would feel. I’m not his to look at, to inspire, to touch, but when he watches me through his lens, it gives me a high I don’t want to come down from…

My journal is the one place I can be myself—as long as I can tie it up and put it away when I’m finished. But when Finn undoes the bow, he pulls strings that could unravel each of us.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]
Yours to Bare is the story of Finn Cohen and Halston Fox. If the name Finn may sound familiar its because he was that sexy photographer in Slip of the Tongue. Though this book is a stand-alone novel you can get a double shot of our deliciously sexy photographer. In other words if you haven’t bought or downloaded Slip of the Tongue do it.

My Thoughts

Halston, my first impression I thought Finn saw her as an enigmatic beauty that he if he could just touch, peel away the layers of Halston what is buried deep inside of her mind and in the pages of her journal he may just find himself. With conviction in his heart he knew it to be true. No one understood her as he did without her ever uttering a word. In Yours to Bare, it stripped down the its bare bones its that crazy beautiful love. Finn is every woman’s dream, desire and obsession and fate just had stick her nose in his love life (I say she has no right damn it lol). Our sexy photographer seems to attract women that are unattainable or unavailable but with Halston, he sees through the lens, sees the beauty before him it was her words, the passion is overwhelming that it torched the pages. There is a saying “the eyes are windows to the soul” not in Finn and Hals case her writing seduces him, lures him, not realizing he held the key to unlock her heart.

Yours to Bare by Jessica Hawkins will set the soul aflame with undying passion, love, provocatively mind blowing sex! “There I said it”. This book is 5 stars hands down or tied behind your back, whichever way Finn likes it.

I felt inspired as I read Yours to Bare and found this quote fitting for Finn and Halston.

Quote: “when he wanted to take her picture, he didn’t tell her to smile, but he told her I love you and her smile is more beautiful” ~ Unknown

Worth the Wait

I like to think of myself as a man of pleasure…

I enjoy a good pint of ale, being in the arms of a beautiful woman, and living by my own rules. The only thing I try to avoid? Commitment. And I’ve got a three-year success rate to prove it.

I wasn’t planning on Grace—the beautiful, funny, totally off-limits massage therapist who keeps popping up in my life. She’s on a six-month mission to rid her life of toxins. No alcohol. No red meat. And, yeah, no men. I’m talking full-on man cleanse.

I know I should walk away, but I can’t…and the only way to keep her in my life is to live by her rules. I’ll need to prove to a woman who’s lost all trust in men that I’m worthy of her love. And do it all without so much as a single kiss.

The only problem? If I win, I’ll lose the one thing I swore I’d never give up. My heart.
My Thoughts

Worth the Wait – story of Jeremy Denning and Grace Bailey was absolutely sweet. what I took away from this book was trust. Trusting in yourself, trusting friends and trusting someone with your whole heart and believing the power of goodness and know you are never alone. AJ Pine created a world around Jeremy and Bailey on what and how reality we live day to day with spin of social media fun, corcky, sexual banter and sexual frustration at best. Worth the Wait is worth the read.
I didn’t realize until I was almost finished the book that worth the Wait was one of four books in the Kingston Ale House series. It didn’t detour me from continuing the book it was easy to follow and can be a great stand-alone book as well but once you read the sub characters you will want to grab books one through three. Well done AJ
Each book in the Kingston Ale House series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.

Beautifully Broken

Whoa! What an emotional roller coaster Beautifully Broken by Laura Lee was. Bring out the box of tissues. I was truly on the fence about as I read the description of a Teacher and student relationship. However I told myself that I will read this book with a open mind and allow Beautifully Broken flow through me and write an honest review.
Beautifully Broken was tastefully written as I read the journey, obstacles and growth of Kat Kennedy. This book touched on real life issues and subjects that would make your heart leap out of your chest and cry for Kat. I felt a bond with Kat and no matter how the relationship with Gavin, her teacher developed I prayed for an HEA. Sorry, no spoilers here!!.Beautifully Broken brings out hope, love, hurt, sacrifices, passion and growth, yes growth. Laura made you feel as if you were walking with Kat taking every step, understanding the choices she made and you felt it through every being in your body. If you are on the fence as I was about reading Beautifully Broken, don’t it is worth the read. Find Beautifully Broken on Amazon available Tuesday 11/15/16.
